Lora Painter anchors Newschannel 3 weeknights at 5:30 p.m. She has a master's degree from New York University in broadcast news and documentary, and graduated magna cum laude from California State University San Marcos with a degree in communications. Lora is an Emmy-nominated member of the National Academy of Arts and Science, Michigan Chapter. She also is a member of the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and has received the association's "Best Anchor" award.
When she’s not anchoring or reporting, Lora explores Michigan and learns about the community. Reading to students, emceeing at the state capital for Asian American Heritage Month, singing in public concerts with local community bands, and fundraising for telethons are just some of the many ways Lora gets involved.
For many years, Lora has played piano, as well as clarinet and bass clarinet. She has sung soprano in Mozart's Requiem, Handel's Messiah, among others, including jazz, country and show tunes in competitive show choirs.
Lora has worked both on-air and in production at television stations in San Diego, Oregon, and New York City. She also lived several years in South Korea as an English professor. From the West Coast to west Michigan, Lora is thrilled to call Kalamazoo her new home.
