PORTAGE, Mich. — Despite seeing their longstanding lead slip away over the final fifteen minutes of regulation, Portage Central's offense once again came alive in overtime to take down Portage Northern 3-1 Tuesday night.
The win put the Mustangs in the District 4 title game, as they look to close in on their first title in five years.
Tristen Spettel scored two goals to lead Portage Central, while getting another goal from Hunter Meninga.
After an early own goal against the Huskies gave Portage Central a 1-0 lead, Portage Northern finally put it together late in the second half: a shot on goal by Carter Broeckel that wasn't cleanly corralled gave Alex Almazan an opportunity to put the equalizer home, leading to overtime. Meninga and Spettel scored within 20 seconds of one another with just under two minutes to play in the opening 10 minutes of OT to put the game out of reach.
