Stevensville native accomplishes nationwide marathon venture, tops off with home state
KALAMAZOO, Mich —
May 6, 2018 will forever be a special day for Stevensville, Michigan native Jodi Rabbers.
After finishing the Kalamazoo Marathon with a time of 5:06:37, Rabbers has officially completed a marathon in each of the 50 states.
Rabbers, who now lives in Arlington, Texas, started running marathons in 1999 and wanted to accomplish the nationwide achievement at the Kalamazoo Marathon.
About a dozen of her family members ran with her, including Mary Rabbers, who ran alongside Jodi the entire race, finishing just one spot and a single second behind, according to the race results.
"When I got up to 25, then I realized I was halfway there. Then realized [it] may be possible that was the goal. After two knee surgeries, I kept going,” Jodi Rabbers said. "When I decided to plan it, the last date being my home state [so] then family can participate with me."
Rabbers said she didn’t run to win, but to simply finish the race.
