LANSING, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette has issued a cease and desist order against a charity that allegedly exploited thousands of donors who helped wounded military.
Healing American Heroes Incorporated is accused of diverting millions of dollars from donors to a fundraiser and other programs.
In 2015, the group helped raise over $2 million by sending nearly 5 million deceptive mailings nationwide.
The mailings included between one and three phone cards, and statements saying soldiers stationed overseas urgently want a phone card.
