Michigan health officials reported 5,710 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020, bringing the total to 197,806.

The state reported 51 more deaths from the virus. The state said 26 deaths were found during a records search. As of Thursday, 7,470 people have died from COVID-19 in Michigan.

State officials said three times a week, the staff at Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reviews records that identify COVID-19 as a case of death. They then match the records with laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19.

As of Friday, Oct. 30, a total of 121,093 people in Michigan had recovered from the virus. A patient is considered recovered when they are clear of the disease 30 days after initial onset. State health officials report that Michigan labs have completed 5,532,886 tests as of Nov. 3, to check for infection by the virus, SARS-CoV-2, that causes the disease.

As of Monday, Nov. 2, there have been 10,344 confirmed cases among residents in long-term care facilities in Michigan. There have been 2,593 reported resident deaths in long-term facilities.
