KVCC offering new culinary courses

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – KVCC is offering up a great opportunity for folks in Kalamazoo to eat healthier in the new year.

Americans eat fully 75 percent of their lunch and dinner meals, which is one reason for the growing obesity and heart disease epidemics in this country.

Now Kalamazoo Valley Community College is looking to teach Kalamazoo how to cook healthy food at home.

On Tuesday Newschannel 3 got a chance to tour KVCC’s new culinary and allied health building on the Bronson Healthy Living Campus downtown and to make some meals as part of a medical culinary cooking class.

Courses are now being offered for the general public, local kids and medical professionals.

On Tuesday we made whitefish with rice and herbs in parchment paper, salad and brownies, a complete meal at under 700 calories and using mostly locally grown ingredients.
