U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree begins cross-country journey this Friday with tour of Oregon

The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree selected from the Willamette National Forest begins its cross-country journey to our nation's capital this Friday in Sweet Home. The People's Tree will visit several Oregon communities - including Albany, Springfield, McKenzie Bridge and Oakridge - before embarking on a 3,000-mile trip along the Oregon Trail in reverse. SWEET HOME, Ore. - The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree selected from the Willamette National Forest begins its cross-country journey to our nation's capital this Friday in Sweet Home.

The People's Tree will visit several Oregon communities - including Albany, Springfield, McKenzie Bridge and Oakridge - before embarking on a 3,000-mile trip along the Oregon Trail in reverse.

The tree was cut down November 2 and prepared for transport.

In December, a 4th-grader from Hillsboro will help the Speaker of the House light the tree.
