7.9 magnitude earthquake rocks Alaska, sparks tsunami warning

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck southern Alaska Tuesday morning sparking a tsunami warning.

The massive quake rocked Kodiak around 1 a.m. local time.

The earthquake led to a tsunami warning that is now in effect for Alaska, Hawaii and the west coast of the U.S.

Magnitude 8.2 earthquake strikes off Alaska coast; tsunami warning issued

The earthquake was first reported as an 8.2 magnitude, but then was later adjusted.

The Kodiak Police Department is now warning residents to evacuate their homes and move to higher ground.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
