A Vicksburg teacher is hitting the spotlight again after being named 2018-19 Michigan Teacher of the Year by state's department of education.

Sunset Lake Elementary teacher Laura Chang is featured in a new video, part of the #proudMIeducator campaign from the Michigan Department of Education, which brings together the Vicksburg superintendent, principal and Chang's father, who is also a retired educator.

“Michigan is blessed with so many proud Michigan educators who inspire all of us every day,” interim state superintendent Sheila Alles said in a press release. “This year’s campaign will feature some of our finest. They all are committed to helping make Michigan a Top 10 education state in 10 years.”

The video is the 15th installment through the campaign, which is focused on promoting how Michigan values, honors and supports its educations, according to the department.

Last year's Teacher of the Year was also local to West Michigan. East Kentwood High School's Luke Wilcox was featured as the 2017-18 TOTY and was a focus of a former #proudMIeducator video. More of the campaign's past videos can be found at the Michigan Department of Education's website here.
