Veterinarian: E-cigs are bad for your pet's health

Veterinarian warns of the danger of e-cigarettes to pets.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNLE 3) - E-cigarettes were first branded as a healthier alternative to regular cigarettes, but we're learning more about the dangers they pose to you and your pets.

The pet poison hotline said the number of pets poisoned by e-cigarettes has jumped 400 percent since 2013.

Cats and dogs are getting sick by ingesting the liquid or inhaling the vapor.

Veterinarians say it's not just e-cigarettes that pet owners need to watch out for, but traditional tobacco products are dangerous for pets, as well.

A veterinarian said, "Anytime there's smoke in the air, animals become more susceptible because their lungs are a lot smaller, and they become more affected than we do."

A veterinarian says up to 25 percent of the animals she treats suffer from some type of smoking illness.
