Americans are expected to spend nearly $19.6 billion on Valentine's Day this year. With the average person spending $143.56 during the holiday. That is up from $18.2 billion a year ago.

The most popular gift this year is expected to be jewelry at $4.7 billion, followed by an evening out and flowers at $3.7 and $2 billion respectively. Around Kalamazoo the most popular flower remains the red rose, but some choose to gift a tropical flower instead. As far as candy goes, chocolates top the list. ChocolateTea owner, Polly Kragt says that Caramels and chocolate covered fruit are a popular choice for Valentine's Day.
