Two musicians from Kalamazoo County were nominated for an award at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards Sunday.

Cory Asbury and Caleb Culver were nominated for their song "Reckless Love" for the category of Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song.

Although the duo did not win the category, it marked the first time the group was nominated for a Grammy.

"We were obviously as a church, and as a personal friend, I'm thrilled," said Radiant Church pastor Jon Zondervan.

Asbury and Culver work as worship pastors and christian musicians at Radiant Church in Richland. Zondervan said it took nine years for Asbury and Culver to finish their song "Reckless Love"

"It talks about the love God has for you, it supersedes anything going on in your life and I think it just resonates with people," Zondervan said.

"Reckless Love" became a big hit following its 2018 release. On Oct. 16, 2018, "Reckless Love" won the Worship Album of the Year award at the 49th Annual GMA Dove Award.

Asbury and Culver have written songs together for more than a decade, Asbury is the lead singer and Culver plays keyboard.

The two were working at a church in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2016 when Radiant Church reached out to Culver.

"We reached out to him and offered him a job and position and Corey came along with it. We weren't even expecting it at the time. They came as a package deal and we couldn't be happier," said Zondervan.

Despite the duo's new found recognition, Zondervan said he believes the two men will remain humble.

"We’ve had a couple of people come to get autographs and things we’re not used to, as a church. They’ve stayed rooted and grounded for the reasons they do what they do," Zondervan said.
