Two killed in head-on crash including 6-year-old girl in Van Buren County


    The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office said alcohol is believed to be a factor in a crash that killed two people in Hartford Township (WWMT/MGN Online).

    It happened on Red Arrow Highway near 60th Street in Hartford Township around 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

    Deputies said a vehicle was heading east when it crossed over the center line, and hit another car head-on.

    The driver of the car that was hit, a 73-year-old woman from Paw Paw, was killed.

    A 6-year-old girl in the other car was taken to the hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

    Deputies said the at-fault driver, a 23-year-old man from Benton Harbor, was taken to the hospital in critical condition, along with a 1-year-old boy who also suffered critical injuries.

    One other passenger in the car that was hit, a 57-year-old woman from Paw Paw, was hospitalized with critical injuries.

    The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office believes alcohol is a factor in this crash.

    The investigation is ongoing.
