Transformer fire leaves Lawton residents in the dark overnight

    Thousands of residents woke up in the middle of the night with no power Friday morning, after police said a transformer blew in the village of Lawton.

    The Lawton Police Department said a transformer on White Oak Road caught fire Thursday night, leaving about 3,000 Indiana Michigan Power customers in the dark.

    Fire crews were able to get control of the flames.

    Police said around 4 a.m. energy crews were able to get a fix in place to get the lights back on for residents. You can check their outage map here.
