A trial date has been set for a man accused of stabbing and slitting the throat of his girlfriend before dumping her body in a Kalamazoo creek on Thursday, June 28, 2018.

Donnovan Lewis, 25, is headed to trial Sept. 25, pending the results of a settlement conference scheduled Sept. 21 as he faces open murder charges for the killing of 24-year-old Aniya Mack.

Newschannel 3's Walter Smith-Randolph is also reporting that Lewis' attorney has filed for a notice of insanity defense as of Aug. 21, meaning Lewis will receive a psych evaluation determining his ability to stand trial.

The body of the 24-year-old Kalamazoo woman was recovered from a creek off East Main Street near 26th Street in Comstock Township. Police said Lewis gave them valuable information that led them to Mack's body and was arrested shortly thereafter.
