The Grand Rapids Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that sent a teenager to the hospital early Sunday morning.

Officers were called to a residence on Ardmore Street SE near Burton Street SE and Eastern Avenue SE around 4:10 a.m. for a report of a shooting, police said.

A 15-year-old boy was in the second story of the residence when the suspects opened fire from outside the home, shooting the teen in the back, according to authorities.

Authorities said the suspects then fled on foot. No arrests have been made at this time.

The teen was taken to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, police said.
