Teen hit by car while riding bike in center of five-lane highway without helmet
GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A teen is fighting for his life after he was hit by a car while riding his bike in Ottawa County.
Deputies said around 10:45 p.m. Sunday night, they were called out to 44th street east of 8th Avenue in Georgetown Township for a crash.
A 29-year-old resident of Wyoming was headed eastbound and crashed into the 14-year-old bicyclist from Jenison, who was riding near the center turn lane of the five-lane road, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.
The driver stopped to help the victim, who was rushed to the hospital and is in critical condition.
The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The crash is under investigation.
