KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Scott Sterffy was ruled incompetent to stand trial by 8th District Court Judge Tiffany Ankley on Wednesday, Oct. 13.
Sterffy faces charges of open murder and mutilating a dead body in relation to the death of his father, Thomas Aye, a Portage oral surgeon.
In August, a judge denied bond for Sterffy.
The search for Sterffy sparked a multi-state manhunt when investigators determined Sterffy had been in Chicago and Seattle since Aye's death.
He was arrested on July 31 in Kalamazoo by police from the Portage Department of Public Safety, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's office.
