BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Battle Creek Police Department honored one of its own today. Detective LaVern Brann was killed in the line of duty 10 years ago today.
This day served as important reminder of the danger involved in police work. It was also an opportunity for the colleagues of Brann and the community to pay tribute to the memory of a man his former partner referred to as "a great officer, a great family man, and a great friend."
The Battle Creek Police Detective was shot and killed while following up on a lead in a homicide investigation. His partner was also shot in the leg.
This afternoon, his widow and two daughters stood near Brann's graveside while the trumpet played and the honor guard gave a salute to show respect for Detective Brann.
