Refunds coming for health insurance customers
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The federal government says nearly 200,000 Michigan health insurance customers will benefit from more than $13 million in refunds.
The refunds are due to a provision in the nation's health care law that requires insurance companies to spend at least 80 percent of their premiums on medical care and quality improvement or return the difference to consumers and employers.
This does not mean you will necessarily be getting a check in the mail. Policyholders may get a reimbursement on their credit card to see a reduction in future premiums.
