Rain has forced the closure of Crosstown Parkway and other Kalamazoo streets
KALAMAZOO, Mich. —
Crosstown Parkway is closed between Stockbridge Avenue and Park Street because of flooding.
Forrest Street is closed and Park Street is next, if the water keeps rising, city officials said. Park Street is currently down to one lane.
Director of Kalamazoo Public Services James Baker said the Crosstown Pond area is always first to flood, but he expects the water will start to recede this afternoon.
This is not expected to be anything like the historic flooding that hit Kalamazoo in late February, Baker said.
The Kalamazoo River is not expected to flood.
Portage Creek has caused some minor flooding and as that water moves through the city, Baker said it will be close, but the creek will likely stay below the banks.
