Portage police investigating strong-armed robbery at Walgreens near Milham and Westnedge
Portage police are still looking for a suspect in a Thursday morning strong-armed robbery at the Walgreens store near the corner of West Milham and South Westnedge avenues.
No one was hurt, but the suspect is on the run, police said.
A Michigan State Police K-9 united tracked the suspect southeast on Milham into the Walnut Trail Apartment Complex, but lost the scent there.
Portage police are continuing the investigation.
"We're very concerned with his actions and if anyone can help us out and call Portage Public Safety immediately if they recognize his picture," said Portage Sgt. Craig Begeman.
The robbery occurred at 8:55 a.m., when a man who had entered the store picked up a bag of candy and took it to the register. Police said that's when he reached over the counter, grabbed the clerk by her clothing and demanded all of the money in the register.
The clerk screamed, and the man let go. Police said the clerk then fell back and the suspect ran off.
Investigators said the suspect took nothing from the store. The suspect is described as a black man about 5-foot-8-inches tall and weighing 240 pounds. He's in his 30s or 40s, and was wearing gray or tan pants and a gray t-shirt. He had a clean-shaven head and a goatee that is about 2 or 3 inches long.
