1 dead, 2 others injured in shooting in Battle Creek

    The Battle Creek Police Department said one man has died and two others have been injured in a shooting early Sunday morning.

    Officers said they heard several gunshots in the area of W. Dickman Rd. and S. Kendall St. just before 3:30 a.m. on Sunday.

    They found a car in the intersection with multiple bullet holes and an unresponsive man in the driver's seat who had been shot.

    The victim, who has been identified as 23-year-old Wendell C. Daniels of Battle Creek, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

    Police said they spotted another man running from the car who had also been shot. Two other men were found near the scene and one had a gunshot wound. They suffered non-life threatening injuries. The fourth man was not injured.

    Investigators said all four men were in the car together when the shooting happened.

    The Battle Creek Police Department said they are tracking down witnesses and no suspects have been arrested yet.

    Investigators said this is the second homicide in Battle Creek this year.
