A person of interest sought in connection to a fire on Wallace Avenue was arrested on a drug charge and booked Friday at the Kalamazoo County Jail, according to jail logs.

Melissa Morgan, 32, was booked on the charge of possession of a controlled substance, jail records said. She was scheduled to be arraigned Monday on the drug possession charges, which are from early December. The arrest and charge are not related to the fire.

Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officials said late Wednesday that they wanted to speak with Morgan as part of the investigation of the deadly fire Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019.

Police said Morgan was seen leaving the home on Wallace Avenue before it caught fire Sunday. Firefighters later found 31-year-old Zachariah "Zach" John Hayes dead inside the home. Hayes was originally from the Iron Mountain area.

Morgan is being held on a $5,000 cash or surety bond, in connection with the drug charge.
