On the Job: Jessica Wheeler is crowned the Queen of Junk!
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - In this week's On the Job Segment, we're getting messy!
Newschannel 3's Jessica Wheeler does some heavy lifting, as she's crowned the "Queen of Junk."
The job started out with a tour of the West Michigan Junk King's warehouse with owners Joe Howard and Kevin Schultz, to see what it is they do
"All of this stuff that you see here is salvageable. This is a key way of staying green,” said Joe Howard, owner and Development Officer at Junk King.
Inside, they have all kinds of items found at various jobs.
"It's like a treasure hunt. You never know what you're going to walk into," said Kevin Schultz, owner and CEO of Junk King.
Some of what we sorted through will sent straight to the dump, some recycled, while a lot of the furniture gets donated to local agencies that help people in need.
"Some of the things we find are literally wrapped," said Howard.
They tell us it's all about being green while helping people take away unwanted items or clean out their homes and businesses.
"We re-purpose, we re-use, we recycle about 60 percent of the items that we bring back and that's to keep as much out of the landfill as we can,” said Schultz.
After getting fitted for a shirt, gloves and a Junk King hat, it was time for the first job, helping a woman get rid of a junk pile and a huge mound of concrete pieces.
