Kalamazoo police and emergency medical teams responded Wednesday morning to a northside Kalamazoo home after a pickup truck crashed through a chain link fence and smashed into the side of the house.

The two occupants of the pickup truck were sent to the hospital. The house, in the 1600 block of South Burdick Street, was unoccupied.

The house sustained some structural damage, but the walls remained upright. The pickup's front end was severely crumpled.

Investigators with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said the driver experienced a medical condition, hit the gas and then hit the house. The truck was probably traveling about 20 mph, police said.

The crash occurred about 9:30 a.m. When officers arrived both of the occupants of the truck were complaining about minor injuries, but were able to remove themselves from the wreckage, police said.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 269-337-8994 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100
