More information emerging about Cracker Barrel shooting scene
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - More details are emerging about the seemingly random shooting at the Cracker Barrel restaurant in Texas Township late Saturday night.
It happened just after 10 p.m., and the incident left five people dead, and was one of three linked shootings Saturday night.
We do not have many details about the victims at this point, but the youngest victim we have been made aware of at this time was just 14 years old. She is in critical condition at the hospital.
Just after 10 p.m., the Chevy HHR driven by suspected shooter Jason Dalton pulled into the parking lot. We're told there were two other vehicles in the lot--a minivan and another vehicle, with a combined three occupants.
Police say the suspect opened fire, shooting through the windows, and firing ten shots.
"We do not have a connection at this point...we do not have anything like that nailed down at this point...yes, it's important for the public to know that we believe we have our suspect in custody; we want the public to remain vigilant, but we believe that everyone is safe, we believe that the situation has been resolved at this point. He is at the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety I believe," said Michigan State Police Lieutenant Dale Hinz.
A press conference is scheduled for 7 a.m. at the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety. Police Chief Jeff Hadley and Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting are both expected to speak.
