Mattawan officials to hold board of determination meeting on Wednesday for flooding issue
MATTAWAN, Mich. —
Today, Mattawan village officials are gathering to figure out how to handle flooding described as the most extensive the village has seen in decades.
Dozens of residents on the northern edge of town near Main Street and French Road are struggling to fix the severe damage to their homes.
"The water just comes in through all the cracks. Anywhere there's a crack, it bubbles in, and we try to keep up but it's ruined several pieces of furniture that have already been taken out,” Mattawan resident Tamara Davis said.
Local and state leaders are now working together on the issue. They say a short term solution could be to pump water from the retention pond to the other side of the village.
Mattawan village officials are holding a board of determination meeting to see if more solutions are available today starting at 2 p.m. at the Antwerp Township Hall.
