Marshall PD warning residents about circulating phone scam
MARSHALL, Mich. —
The city of Marshall Police Department is warning residents of several reports they've received regarding phone calls from random numbers threatening potential police custody.
The caller, most recently being recorded as a Kentucky-based area code, states that if legal matters are not resolved within 24 hours from the phone call, local authorities will come to take the offender into custody. Marshall officials are warning those who receive the call that this is not true.
The caller is more than likely attempting to obtain credit card or bank account information. The department suggests hanging up immediately upon received a call similar to the described above.
This comes after a scam regarding IRS impersonators swept West Michigan in mid-July.
