KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A West Michigan robotics team is hoping to prove they're the best in the world at an international competition.

Stryke Force Robotics, a FIRST robotics competition team from Kalamazoo made up of high school students from West Michigan, competed in two district events.

The team won both events and finished as runner-up at the FIRST Michigan state competition in Saginaw.

Kids in the program say it's like nothing else they've ever done.

Kyra Kothawala, with Stryke Force Robotics, said, “It's called a sport for the mind and just being able to be around everyone else and the other teams there, it's extremely exciting. And watching all your hard work of six weeks of building, just going out on the field and competing, it's like no other feeling."

Stryke Force is headed to Saint Louis, Missouri where nearly 800 teams from 40 countries will be at this weekend's global competition.
