Kentucky man jailed in Branch County, Michigan, after being found asleep at the wheel
A Boston, Kentucky, man is sitting in the Branch County Jail on a $50,000 bond after deputies found him asleep in the driver's seat of a passenger van that had been reported stolen out of Indiana.
Branch County Undersheriff Keith Eichler said Patrick Hewitt, 32, has been charged with driving on an expired license and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Hewitt was arrested Saturday, after a deputy was dispatched to an area near Hall and Fremont roads in Algansee Township.
The deputy found the driver of a white 2013, 15-passenger van asleep.
Investigators learned that Hewitt's driver's license had expired, and that the van was reported stolen March 30, through the Marion Police Department in Marion, Indiana. The van is owned by Carey Services and was used to transport mentally and physically handicapped people, Eichler said in a written statement on the arrest.
