KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Retired NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is expected to make a stop in Kalamazoo in 2017 as part of a reading program.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is scheduled to visit Miller Auditorium on Tues. March 14, 2017 as part of a special anniversary for the Kalamazoo Public Library’s Reading Together program.

The KPL picked “Writings on the Wall: Searching for a New Equality Beyond Black and White” as part of the 15th Anniversary of the Reading Together program.

The program encourages people in the community to read the same book and then engage with the author about the themes of the book.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar played for the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers. He was named Most Valuable Player in the NBA six times and still holds many records in the NBA. He was inducted to the NBA Hall of Fame in 1995 and is considered on the 50 greatest basketball players in history.

Abdul-Jabbar debuted in film with a famous fight against Bruce Lee in the 1972 film Game of Death and had a role in the movie Airplane! In 1980.

Abdul-Jabbar’s book was released in August and copies will be available at the Kalamazoo Public Library starting Nov. 1.

The event in March is free and copies of the book will be for sale at the event.
