KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Decades of hockey history will be honored Friday night in Kalamazoo!

The Kalamazoo Wings will host their home opener at 7:30 p.m. against Fort Wayne. Opening night activities will begin with the Fan Fest at 4:45 p.m. and the first 1,000 fans through the doors will get a replica Kevin Schamehorn #26 banner. You can buy tickets here.

The K-Wings will retire Schamehorn's #26 jersey Friday night with a retirement ceremony kicking off the 2019 home season.

Schamehorn played in 495 games over his three decades on skates in Kalamazoo. He still holds the franchise record for points (474 points to be exact) and is tied for the most goals (293 of them) with Mike Wanchuk. He is from Victoria, British Columbia but now lives in Kalamazoo since retiring from hockey after the 1989-90 season.

The K-Wings and Schamehorn joined us Friday morning to talk about his history on the team, and the big excitement of Friday night's ceremony:
