Kalamazoo County sheriffs investigating multiple fraud cases, credit card scams
KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. —
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office were investigating several reports of fraud that have been reported throughout the county, where suspicious callers acting like representative of a financial institution are scamming individuals of their credit card numbers.
A statement from the department Monday identified several instances where callers would contact an individual, falsely disguised as a financial representative, claiming to have noticed suspicious activity on the target's account. They would then ask for the victim's PIN number and three-digit security code on the back of their credit/debit card. Once obtained, the caller would clone the cards and use them to commit several fraudulent charges.
One individual has been captured on local surveillance footage using one of the said fraudulent clone cards and police are asking for the public's help in identifying the subject. If anybody has information on the identity of the individual pictured, police are asking to call the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office reminded individuals financial institutions will never ask for your PIN or security code number over the phone and to remain vigilant for possible scammers.
