Kalamazoo Co. deputies receive 'dozens' of new tips in cold case murder

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Kalamazoo County deputies say they are looking into dozens of new tips concerning a local cold case.

A week ago, Newschannel 3 aired an update into a 32-year-old unsolved homicide.

Vicksburg teenager Erik Cross was killed while walking home from a party in 1983.

Last week, Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas told Newschannel 3 that they have interviewed a person of interest, who is currently in jail on unrelated charges.

Our sources have identified that person as Brent Spaulding.

Deputies say since our story aired, they have received dozens of phone calls from people coming forward with new information on the case.

Investigators are now following up on those calls.
