Kalamazoo assault suspect arrested after K9 tracks for nearly 1,400 yards

A K9 unit with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office assisted in apprehending a suspect on the run after reports of a felonious assault with a firearm that took place around 8:25 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18.

Deputies with the department were dispatched to the area of E. JK Avenue and 28th Street in Comstock Township after receiving reports of a man who threatened people with a firearm. The suspect, who was later identified to have had a warrant for his arrest, fled the scene prior to the arrival of deputies.

K9 Zeus and handler were able to track the suspect for nearly 1,400 yards through thick terrain, finally locating the suspect and taking him into custody. He is now being lodged at Kalamazoo County Jail awaiting charges.
