H.O.P.E. to launch new tiny houses program in Kalamazoo

A Kalamazoo organization wanted to help provide affordable housing to low-income residents in Kalamazoo, and Friday they will make that dream a reality.

"Helping Other People Exceed (H.O.P.E.) Thru Navigation" invited the public to its second annual Trailblazers Tribute Friday, Jan. 25 at 5:30 p.m. on Kalamazoo's Northside.

The Tiny Houses program was expected to officially launch at the tribute. The project provides six affordable and permanent homes for single adults with a criminal background and/or a history of substance abuse.

The event, combined with the Official Tiny Houses of H.O.P.E. reception, also planned to honor those who helped create and preserve the Drug Treatment Court.

Judge Harvey Hoffman, Mattie Jordan-Woods, Michael O. Jones and Valerie Young were expected to be honored, as well.

The event was scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Northside Association for Community Development.
