High-speed chase takes officers through two West Michigan counties
BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. —
A high-speed chase has ended on Interstate 94 outside of Mattawan after two West Michigan counties pursued a motorist driving a stolen vehicle, the Berrien County Sheriff's Office confirms.
Benton Township police began pursuing the driver of a stolen Lexus on I-94 in Berrien County, where the chase peaked at speeds near 120 miles per hour. The driver crossed over into Van Buren County, and that's when local VBC deputies assisted in the pursuit.
Police attempted to use stop sticks to stop the driver, but the preventative measure failed.
The driver surrendered near mile marker 63 and is in police custody. Michigan State Police, Berrien County Sheriff's deputies, Benton Township police and Van Buren County Sheriff's deputies all assisted in the chase.
