BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — One group of high school students Saturday took the time to remember those who served.
The American Legion teamed up with students from Harper Creek High School to spend the morning at Floral Lawn Memorial Cemetery placing American flags at grave sites.
They placed flags on the graves of veterans while social distancing.
Brian Mohlman with American legion Post 257 said it was great to see teenagers get involved in such an important cause.
"It's hard enough getting teenagers out of bed on Saturdays to do some work. This is very very rewarding work on their part. They're learning something. They're learning how and why we honor veterans," he said.
The American Legion planned on holding a Memorial Day ceremony at the cemetery, but had to cancel because of the pandemic.
They plan to hold a ceremony in 2021.
