ALLENDALE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Grand Valley State University President Philomena Mantella announced Friday the university will go "test-optional" for students applying for the fall 2021 semester.
She said the option means SAT and ACT standardized tests are not required for students applying to enter in fall 2021, in an effort to reduce hardship and barriers for students during the pandemic.
"During this time of uncertainty, we want to remove stress and respond to the needs of prospective students," Mantella said. "We want to take worry off the table."
Mantella said the university's admissions department will take a "holistic approach" in reviewing applications. They will review several factors, including grade point average (GPA), academic rigor, short answer response on the admissions application, and standardized test scores when presented.
Students applying for the GMAT and GRE for graduate programs may also be reviewed as test-optional.
More information can be found on GVSU's Admissions website.
Test-optional is also being explored for the GMAT and GRE for graduate programs, as Grand Valley works to be as flexible as possible for all students.
