Founders Brewing pulled its membership from the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce over its support for Gubernatorial Bill Schuette.

Founders said in a tweet Wednesday that it stands with the gay and lesbian community and asked the chamber to reverse its endorsement. The Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce endorsed Schuette earlier in the week..

The Grand Rapids brewery is one of a handful of Grand Rapids businesses taking issue with Schuette's opposition to the Michigan Civil Rights Commission's ruling that Michigan cannot discriminate based on sexual orientation.

The chamber said in a statement it remains committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, and actively advocates for the expansion of the Elliott Larsen Act.

The release goes on to say it endorsed Schuette because he aligns most closely with its business-friendly policies.
