Fight between homeless men in Battle Creek ends in murder charges


BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A Battle Creek homeless man was arrested on open murder charges, after police said he got into a fight with another homeless man, killing him.

It happened behind the Liberty Convenience Store on Green Street around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

Police said they found a 55-year-old homeless man unconscious on the ground, with extensive injuries to his face. They tried to save him, but officers said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another homeless man standing nearby then came up to police and admitted he got into a fight with the victim, and hit him, according to Battle Creek Police.

The suspect was arrested on open murder charges. Investigators say the 54-year-old is cooperating, and no weapons were involved in the fight.
