East G Avenue closed after driver crashes into a tree in Comstock Township

UPDATE: East G Avenue is reopening.


COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Kalamazoo County deputies are working to help a driver who crashed into a tree in Comstock Township.

The Comstock Fire Department says East G Avenue between North 31st Street and North 33rd Street is closed while the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office investigates.

A car headed east crashed into a tree and hit a power line, trapping the driver inside, according to the fire department. Authorities had to extract the driver, who was taken to the hospital with severe injuries.

Consumers Energy was working to fix the line Wednesday morning.
