Dowagiac man raising funds before heading to help with Hurricane Florence recovery effort
A Dowagiac man is trying to raise nearly $1,000 before he heads down to the storm zone.
He needs the donations fast.
He is going to be heading out on Monday to help with the recovery effort.
His first stop will most likely be in the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina area.
Brian Antisdel say he needs around $1,000 to rent a truck to haul the more than three carloads of donations he's received from people in our area and as far away as Louisiana.
He's been getting donations all week. Everything from clothes to children's toys all for the people who will be left with nothing after the storm.
This isn't his first time he's done this either. He helped out after Hurricanes Harvey and Irma last year and Hurricane Katrina back in 2005.
He says he loves doing this because he knows what it's like to have nothing.
"It is important for me for one because I’ve been homeless and I’ve been without, so immediately I think to that and then I went down once and saw a child covered in mud. When I pulled up with a U-Haul, the parents and the child we’re looking at me with hope. I had it and once you’ve see that, you just want to help," said Brian Antisdel coordinating donations.
Now he still needs supplies like diapers, pet food and gas cards.
If anyone would like to donate, the email address for this PayPal card is firstname.lastname@example.org or you can drop items off at his business, 146 South Front Street in Dowagiac.
