KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Two women were pulled from a burning duplex in Kalamazoo Township Thursday morning, but family tells us one woman did not make it.

We spoke with the victim's daughter, who lives on the other side of the duplex from Thursday morning's fire, which broke out in the 2000 block of Sunnyside Drive.

The woman tells us she smelled smoke, and thought it may have been coming from her kitchen. That's when she realized the other unit was on fire and called for help.

The woman tells us her sister and 82-year-old mother live in that unit, and she used a fire poker to break the windows, saying the smoke was too thick for her to go inside.

Kalamazoo Township Public Safety, and Comstock Fire crews were able to contain the fire to just half of the duplex, but the other side they say has some smoke damage.

Right now the cause of the fire is unknown.

We are waiting for another update from the fire chief at this point.

Both of the victims were taken to the hospital by ambulance, but we are told by family that the 82-year-old that lived there has passed away.
