OSHTEMO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Crews battle the freezing temperatures to put out an apartment fire in Oshtemo Township on New Year's Eve.

Flames broke out at the Seville Apartments near KL Avenue and Drake Road Sunday night.

Oshtemo Fire Chief Mark Barnes tells Newschannel 3 the fire started in a top floor apartment, possibly in the kitchen, and from there, the flames spread to the attic.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire quickly, but the water damage proved extensive. Chief Barnes says 12 apartments suffered some kind of damage, and because the water could cause the ceiling to collapse, residents cannot live in them right now.

Residents left in the cold while crews battled the flames were moved to the Seville Apartments' clubhouse. The displaced residents were found a place to stay for the night.

No one was hurt in the fire.

Fire officials will now be investigating what caused the fire.
