Creation of Kalamazoo River Greenway up for discussion in Allegan

ALLEGAN, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Allegan County is looking to the public to help preserve and improve areas along the Kalamazoo River.

The Outdoor Discovery Center received a grant from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to come up with a master plan for a Kalamazoo River Greenway to connect Allegan County communities. The area spans from Holland and Saugatuck over to Plainwell and Wayland.

The organization hopes to restore the environment, and focus on recreation, conservation and education.

There are several public meetings allowing residents to share their ideas for the area and what they would like to see done.

  • Central Allegan County Area: July 26 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Griswold Memorial Auditorium (401 Hubbard St, Allegan)
  • Otsego/Plainwell Area: August 1 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Gun Plain Township Office (381 8th St, Plainwell)
  • Rabbit River Watershed Area: August 14 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Salem Township Hall (3003 142nd Ave, Dorr)
  • Saugatuck/Douglas/Potawatomi Area: August 15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Saugatuck Brewing Company (2948 Blue Star Highway, Douglas)
