KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Vibrant Kalamazoo received a $100,000 grant to support Eastside Gateway Project, a community revitalization project of energy efficient small homes and a community pocket park in the east side of Kalamazoo.
Executive Director of the Kalamazoo County Land Bank Kelly Clarke made the announcement Friday, May 17, 2019. She said in a written statement that the grant from the Consumer Energy Foundation will positively impact property values, safety, beautification efforts and economic development of Kalamazoo's east side. Seven homes will be completed by the end of the project this year, she said.
“We look forward to helping residents of the Eastside Gateway Project thrive economically, as they live in affordable, energy-efficient homes for years to come,” said Brandon Hofmeister, president of the Consumers Energy Foundation.
As of Friday, Clarke said three out of the seven single-family homes have been built along with the first phase of the pocket park.
