Construction worker killed in I-94 crash was operating a crane when hit by semi-truck

An investigation from the Michigan State Police Paw Paw post and Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement revealed new details from the crash on I-94 that killed a construction worker, Friday night.

According to officials, the road construction worker was operating a crane conducting bridgework over-top of the roadway when the worker attempted to jump from the construction equipment prior to it being struck by a westbound semi-truck.

Police reports showed the crash happened around 9:30 p.m. in the construction zone on westbound I-94 at County Road 653.

The worker was pronounced dead at the scene and the identity was not being released pending family notification.

The driver of the semi suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Bronson Hospital.
