Collin Rose Memorial Run kicks off this Independence Day

A 5k & 10k race in Richland is honoring the life and legacy of native Sergeant Collin Rose after he was killed in the line of duty in Detroit last November.

RICHLAND, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The West Michigan Community is coming together this Independence Day to honor a Richland native killed in the line of duty.

Sergeant Collin Rose was shot killed last November while working as a Wayne State University Police Sergeant in Detroit.

Now an annual 5k & 10k race is being renamed the Collin Rose Memorial Run in his honor.

Funds raised at the event will go to a scholarship at Gull Lake High School for first responder training and specialized medical kits for K9 units.
